Leader needed for bear foundation fund-raising team The Jennifer Jones Whistler Bear Foundation is looking for a volunteer fund-raising co-ordinator. The volunteer will be responsible for launching fund-raising activities and co-ordinating other volunteers. The foundation is looking for someone with experience in both fund-raising and co-ordinating a team. The intent is to raise cash for signs, pamphlets, bear-proof waste containers, the production of a bear-aware video as well as help fund the community’s program of non-lethal bear management. Although there is no remuneration for the job, the foundation’s Sylvia Dolson says the personal rewards are immeasurable "and the bears very appreciative." Library to host Laszlo reading Author Andre Laszlo is slated to give a reading from his work My Uncle Jacinto on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Whistler Public Library. The reading is free of charge. Human board game garners accolades The Corporate Play People, a Whistler-based corporate event management company, has recently been nominated for an industry award for its human 1999 human board game, Taskmaster. The game serves as an innovate corporate team-building exercise. Participants are required to move giant game pieces around a board the size of a large dance floor. Taskmaster creators Monique Davidson, Michael Kyle and Laurin Kyle Boyle will travel to Toronto where the winners will be announced at the Canadian Events and Meetings Gala slated for March 29. Children’s Art Festival needs volunteers The Whistler Community Arts Council needs some help for the Children’s Art Festival, to be held May 27-28 this year. This will be the 18th year for the two-day event in which professional artists and artisans offer hands-on art workshops to school-aged children. The arts council needs both planning committee and on-site volunteers to help make the event happen. The planning committee will begin meeting in early March to organize the festival and volunteer members must be available to oversee festival management on May 27 and 28. The on-site volunteers are required during the event to assist with set-up, management and take-down. Approximately four hours will be required of each on-site volunteer. To lend a hand, call Melissa Laidlaw at 932-0121. Arts aid needed for Artrageous Artrageous, a local art exhibit has been scheduled for June 10. On-site volunteers are needed to assist with setting up, management and cleaning up at the end of the day.
