Birken murder mystery combines action with hunt

There’s some funny stuff going on in Birken at Whispering Falls Resort on Aug. 24.

A murder-mystery, written by locals Val Bunt and Suzie Gimse, will have 30 teams try to figure out "whodunit" using a list of clues provided by organizers.

"I want people to walk away going that was something different," says Patti Rodger Kirkpatrick, who is co-organizing the event with Nancy Frame.

"It’s kind’ve fun because they really have to look around (for clues) this time around."

The seven-member cast from a similar event in 1988, set at Anderson Lake and penned by the same duo, will be in the show.

Murder and sleuthing are nothing new to the area. The Birken Book Club also presented a murder mystery play in 1998.

This year’s plot begins with a suspect character who is out on parole and on the prowl.

There is a $30 fee to enter this family-oriented event, sponsored by Mountain Glass and Mirror, Mountain Accounting Services and the community of Birken.

Croquet, events for children and a barbeque will also be included.

The event is part of ongoing fundraising efforts by locals to build a local firehall.

At this time there is no provision for fire safety services based in Birken.

For more information contact Patti Rodger Kirkpatrick at 604-452-3474 or Nancy Frame at 604-452-3477. Completed registration forms with payment can be mailed to the Birken Fire Protection Society-Murder Mystery, c/o box 1512, D’arcy, B.C. VON 2LO.
