A house on Panorama Ridge in Whistler's Brio neighbourhood was destroyed in a fire on Friday (Feb. 9) afternoon.

Whistler Fire Rescue is still determining how many people have been displaced, but say the homeowner has lost everything. "The home was occupied and the suite was occupied," said deputy fire chief Chris Nelson. "The homeowner lost everything in the home. The suite has water and smoke damage."

Crews were called to the scene around 12 p.m. after a fire broke out in the exterior of the home. Fire fighters arrived quickly, Nelson said, but the blaze had already moved through the house. "I've never seen a fire move that quickly," he added.

The fire was largely out by 4 p.m., but officials are still investigating the cause. The homeowner was home at the time of the fire, though no one was hurt, Nelson said.
