Garibaldi Alpen Resorts and Grand Adex Resorts have been invited to proceed with formal proposals to develop the Brohm Ridge area for skiing. Garibaldi Alpen, Grand Adex (a subsidiary of Concord Pacific) and the Black Tusk Snowmobile Club all expressed interest in developing a resort in the area under the province's commercial alpine ski area policy. The snowmobile club was dropped from the list by the steering committee reviewing proposals, on the recommendation of an independent consultant. The province's ski area policy process began last February when Garibaldi Alpen filed an expression of interest. B.C. Lands then issued a public call for expressions of interest in the area. Garibaldi Alpen and Grand Adex will now submit formal applications. If one of those proponents is given the go ahead they then must do detailed studies of the area — which will likely take a few years — before approval is given to begin construction of the resort. Garibaldi Alpen has been pushing for the right to develop Brohm Ridge for several years and has completed some studies.
