Buitenhuis is NDP candidate in Sea to Sky

Pemberton all-candidates meeting Wednesday, April 15

The NDP riding association for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky has selected North Vancouver's Juliana Buitenhuis to carry the party's colours in the May 12 provincial election.

Buitenhuis will be running against Liberal incumbent Joan McIntyre, and Jim Stephenson of The Green.

All three are expected at the riding's first all-candidates meeting, on Wednesday, April 15 at the Pemberton Community Centre. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Pique attempted to contact Buitenhuis but did not receive a reply at press time. There was no biography yet on the B.C. NDP website, but according to a website she works as a "Children Who Witness Abuse Counsellor" in North Vancouver, assisting children who have witnessed trauma, abuse and drug and alcohol abuse.

She also runs support groups in schools and in the community, and sits on the Caring For Our Youth Committee that was set up to assist in the healing and health of Squamish Nation Youth.

At press time there were only three candidates for the riding, although the Conservative Party and B.C. Refederation Party have candidates in other ridings.
