A Burnaby man is dead after crashing in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park this weekend, confirmed local police.

Whistler RCMP Cpl. Diane Blain said the 51-year-old was riding in the park on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 26 when he was “ejected from his bike and landed between a rock and a (tree).”

Despite the efforts of first responders, the man was pronounced dead after being transported to the Whistler Health Care Centre.

When asked for comment, Whistler Blackcomb confirmed the information provided by police in a short statement.

“Whistler Blackcomb, Whistler Mountain Bike Park Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” added Pete Sonntag, Whistler Blackcomb’s chief operating officer, in the release.
