An active member of Whistler’s business community has been appointed to the Capilano College board of governors.

As part of the Liberal government’s review and restructuring of public post-secondary institutions, Shannon Byrne, is now one of nine new members on the Capilano College board.

Byrne has been recognized provincially and internationally as the president and CEO of the Whistler-based Paradata Systems, a company specializing in the development of secure online payment methods. Founded in 1993, Paradata has flourished from four unpaid employees to having offices in Whistler, Vancouver, Toronto and Zurich, Switzerland.

This summer, Paradata expanded its business to include the US and Germany. The launch of its American Web site www.paradatausa.com attracted Pacific Online Inc., a Web host to thousands of customers, among them The Westin Hotels, Government of Canada, YWCA and United Way. Paradata also teamed up with TeleCash GmbH, Germany’s leading credit card processor.

Paradata’s Merchant Integration Kit was given the nod last month by the B.C. Technology Industries Association, winning the award for Best Application Of Web Technology. It was selected from 35 applicants.

And Byrne, herself, was nominated to this year’s Top 40 Under 40 list, a prestigious award recognizing contributions and achievements by entrepreneurs under 40 years of age in the Canadian business community.

Byrne took her seat on the Capilano College board of governors July 31.
