A cabin came off the line in Squamish Tuesday, Feb. 4 during construction of the Sea to Sky Gondola. No one was injured.

The event occurred Tuesday morning and is under investigation as a construction incident, according to project general manager Jayson Faulkner.

Austrian-based lift manufacturers Doppelmayr are currently on site with gondola staff and the British Columbia Safety Authority to determine the cause of the incident.

The cabin is damaged beyond repair, Faulkner said, and costs around $50,000 to produce.

"Safety has to be the highest priority, that's just the nature of this business," Faulkner said. "It's one of the reasons we chose Doppelmayr; their professionalism and experience is unparalleled."

Construction and testing at the site is ongoing, and no delays are anticipated in advance of the gondola's planned opening in May.
