Call for ArtWalk applicants

This summer, stores, hotels, and restaurants around Whistler will again be adorned with the work of local artists as part of the Whistler Art Council's sixth annual ArtWalk.

This summer, stores, hotels, and restaurants around Whistler will again be adorned with the work of local artists as part of the Whistler Art Council's sixth annual ArtWalk.

Since Whistler is without a public art gallery, WAC, TD Canada Trust and Whistler Real Estate Company have teamed up to present ArtWalk, which offers Sea to Sky artists a unique opportunity to display their work to the public over an extended period of time. The 2009 ArtWalk takes place from July 1 to Aug. 31, with opening receptions on Friday, July 3 and Friday, July 31.

This year, WAC has developed a new partnership with the Whistler Museum & Archives and the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre to develop guided tours, which will see participating artists guide art lovers through the village, while providing insight into the community's natural history, with the tour finishing at the SLCC. They are also developing a plan to host a new program with open studios each month in Function Junction, to introduce the public to artists' working studios and create opportunities for interaction and viewing of art work.

Participating artists must live between Lions Bay and Lillooet and work in visual arts, photography, fibre arts, pottery, multimedia, jewelry or sculpture. Interested artists must submit their applications by Monday, May 11. For more information, visit www.whistlerartscouncil.com .
