For more than 300 people in the Sea to Sky corridor community of Mount Currie, the recent cold snap has been a vivid reminder of how precarious their situation has become after recent floodwaters ravaged the town and destroyed items of necessity to survive the coming winter.
Whistler-Blackcomb and the Re-Use-It Centre in Whistler have combined efforts with the Mount Currie Band to address the immediate need and are issuing a public call for donations for items needed by flood affected residents.
The Re-Use-It Centre, located at 1003 Lynham Road in Function Junction in Whistler, will be receiving items from the public specifically for Mount Currie on Tuesday, Nov. 18th and Wednesday, Nov. 19 th , between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Whistler-Blackcomb will transport the materials directly to Mount Currie on Thursday, Nov. 20th. Additional staff from Whistler-Blackcomb will assist the centre with the increased volume of items arriving on Nov. 18th and 19th, but items may also be dropped off before this date.
The Mount Currie Band has identified the need for the following list of items:
• Winter jackets and outerwear, warm clothing (men & women, all ages)
• Winter footwear (men & women, all ages)
• Bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags)
• Bedroom dressers and mattresses
• Furniture: Kitchen table & chairs, living room chair/couch
• Washer/Dryer (5 each), Stove/Fridge (3 each), Microwave oven
• Carpets/rugs
