A multi-million contract to build an access road to the Callaghan Valley has been awarded to a West Vancouver company.
The contract, worth just under $12 million, was awarded to Murrin Construction Ltd. of West Vancouver and will see the construction of roads into the site for the Olympic Nordic Centre in the Callaghan Valley.
The road will stretch for 9.6 km from Highway 99 to the Nordic centre. It will be two lanes from the highway until it crosses the Callaghan Valley, where it will increase to four lanes.
"The Nordic venue will be a key area during the Olympic Games and I'm
pleased that our government is stepping up to ensure athletes and visitors alike will have safe access to it," said Joan McIntyre, MLA for West Vancouver-Garibaldi. "This is a significant step forward in ensuring our infrastructure is top quality as we prepare to host the world in 2010."
Construction has not yet begun but is expected to be completed by October 2007.
