Whistler Astronomy Club hosts free stargazing evening

Bring your telescopes, binoculars and warm clothes – if the stars are out on Saturday, April 16, International Astronomy Day, the Whistler Astronomy Club is hosting an evening of stargazing at Spruce Grove Park.

At this time of year, if it’s clear, you can get excellent views of Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon and the Virgo Galaxy Cluster. The Pacific Observatory, local astronomers John Nemy and Carol Legate, will be bringing their 25 inch reflector telescope, one of the largest non-institutionally-owned scopes in Canada.

If it rains, astronomers will move into the Spruce Grove Fieldhouse, where Nemy will give a presentation.

The set up starts at 5 p.m. and the evening runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event is free and open to everybody.
