Whistler's friends south of the border are invited to come to the American Friends of Whistler reception over the holidays.

Current members of the non-profit society are asked to meet at Millennium Place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27. Anyone else interested in joining the organization and meeting fellow Americans with ties to Whistler can join the group from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Municipal Administrator Jim Godfrey will give a presentation on some local government initiatives, like the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan and the Olympics. As well, Tourism Whistler President Barrett Fisher and a representative from Whistler-Blackcomb will share updates at the meeting.

The group is designed to raise money and then funnel it back into local charities. Mayor Hugh O'Reilly, who has dual citizenship, said that roughly $30,000 went back into the community this year.

He said this is a great chance to meet fellow Americans in an informal setting.

The group is also looking for energetic people to join its board of directors. For more information call MY Place at 604-935-8410.
