Campground to open by late summer The private campground at Mons (near Spruce Grove) will be open for business by mid- to late-summer, says Nigel Woods, one of the project developers. Whistler council gave the project re-zoning application third reading last year, which means council has set the guidelines for the campground and it's up to the developers to obtain a development permit outlining how the project will be built. "It's kind of on target," Woods says. When it opens this year, however, campers in tents, vans or RVs may have to put up with bare-bones service. The project includes a central building of campground facilities with some employee accommodation on upper floors. "There's not a chance" the campground will be open by the May 24th Victoria Day weekend, a traditional kick-off to the outdoor life. The campground land straddles Fitzsimmons Creek to the north of the old Spruce Grove bridge. Tenting will be on the east side of the creek, with RVs concentrated on the west side.
