The World Cup ski cross finals at Sierra Nevada, Spain were disappointing for the Canadian team with no athletes reaching the podium.
However, it didn't seem to matter in the overall scheme of things as the team was presented with the Nations Cup award for the sport of ski cross with Canadian athletes earning more points and podiums than any other team on the circuit. It was the third year that Canada has won the award.
The final event was delayed and delayed again by poor visibility and blowing snow but finally got underway in late Friday afternoon.
Chris DelBosco made the finals on the men's side, but was unable to make up for a bad start. He wound up fourth.
Stanley Hayer was knocked out of medal contention in the semi-finals but made up for it with a win in the small final to place fifth. Whistler's Davey Barr was one spot back in sixth, matching his Olympic result, while Brian Bennett of Whistler placed 10 th .
None of the Canadian women advanced past the quarterfinal, with Kelsey Serwa placing ninth and Ashleigh McIvor 10 th after crashes in their respective runs. Danielle Poleschuk was 12 th .
McIvor finished the season in second place in the overall standings with five podiums this season. She also won the Olympic gold medal in ski cross.
"Today was a bit bittersweet. We didn't have any athletes on the podium... but it was good for the whole team to get the opportunity to take to the stage when we were awarded the top nation in the world."
