The Canadian Cancer Society advises Whistler residents that their donations to the society may have been stolen. The Vancouver Police Department is investigating a theft at the offices of the Canadian Cancer Society at 2780 East Broadway in Vancouver. It is believed that a portion of the revenues from the recent residential campaign in Whistler were stolen sometime on July 8. At this time, no suspect has been identified. The Canadian Cancer Society advises residents who have made donations by cheque to confirm whether these have cleared their financial institutions. If they have not, donors are asked to put a stop payment on them. The public is invited to attend the official launch of the new low-floor buses Friday, July 23. Community and local government representatives will outline features of the new buses and introduce the people behind the scenes. Everyone is welcome to attend the event, which will feature short bus rides on the new wheelchair-accessible buses — painted in the new alpenglow colour scheme. There will also be entertainment, and refreshments. The buses leave Village Square at 12:20 p.m., they arrive at Mountain Square at 12:35, and at 12:40 the official ceremony begins. The Whistler Public Library must make space for new books. Hundreds of used paperbacks and hard covers will be for sale by donation, Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of IGA in the Marketplace.
