The municipal election is more than two months away but already there are three declared candidates for the position of mayor. Councillors Max Kirkpatrick and Hugh O’Reilly both declared last week their intentions to run for mayor. Helmut Banka, best known for his run ins with the municipality over his dogs, has also declared himself a candidate for mayor. Current Mayor Ted Nebbeling was elected MLA for West Vancouver-Garibaldi in the spring provincial election. He never intended to seek a third term as mayor. Councillors Dave Kirk, Kristi Wells and Bill Murray have all confirmed they will stand for re-election in the Nov. 16 poll. Councillor Thelma Johnstone, who is also chair of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, has yet to declare her intentions.
