The Whistler Nordic Centre, which is based at Nicklaus North, is hosting a Winter Nordic Carnival on Feb. 23 to raise money for an adaptive cross country ski program for disabled individuals.

There will be a free ski demo, free demo skis, a waxing clinic, and ski clinics for skinny skiers. There will also be a kick sled, Quebec-style home-made maple syrup and tours through the country on Blackcomb Sleighrides. All activities are by donation, and all donations will go towards the adaptive cross country program.

"We wanted to have a fun event like this to promote cross country skiing in Whistler, and it’s great to be able to give some money to this program as well," says Savio Otis, the owner of the Nordic Centre.

"We can bring the disabled to the community to try the sport, the same way they do on the mountains. It is a Paralympic sport, too, so we may be training some kids for the 2010 Games."

The Carnival starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m.
