Re: “Whistlerites struggling to find consistent healthcare

It was not for lack of trying to ensure I could continue caring for my community. I think the model is broken when Whistler- Blackcomb receives huge concessions in hydro cost, tax breaks but as healthcare providers we shoulder every additional cost like GST , increases in rent and other costs with no ability to recoup these costs that are constantly escalating. MSP is a fixed income no matter location ie Whistler or other ski resorts although costs are significantly different.
I pleaded with our local Big business for help, our local Division,College of Physicians of BC, VCHA
our BC doctor recruitment organization and asked all my patients to help me finding doctors and staff.
It came as no surprise to anyone who was iin business in Whistler that with the income generated I could not continue operations trying to provide a service above and beyond the 5 minute visits currently given in most walk in climics in Vancouver.

There will need to be a different model of care created in Whistler and as in other small communities it must be community generated not expecting individuals to take all the financial risk to care for the health of a community.
