Something special happens when women come together in one room – add a dancing pole in the middle of it and you’ve got a recipe for a great time.
Whistler celebrates Women’s Week March 4 to 12 with numerous activities, parties and events and best of all, all strictly designed for the female psyche.
Tune into challenges, triumphs and juggling acts all women share with an evening of education, reflection and skill building.
Balancing Babes gathers a panel of experts to discuss balancing life with literature, spirituality, business and relationships March 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Telus Conference Centre. The open think tank includes the expertise of Paula Shackleton of Book Buffet, fitness guru Cat Smiley and Kelly Oswald of The Oracle.
The workshop is followed by Rosanna Arquette’s documentary Search for Debra Winger , which explores the topics of balancing career, family, relationships, aging and health.
"It speaks to the issues women face, which is reinforced with the tales of famous actresses (in their 40s) who are having to create parts for themselves, and how they manage their careers and find balance in their lives," said Shackleton who is hosting the event.
Pole dancing is on the agenda with the free, women-only Shake It Up Baby class Wednesday, March 8 at 8 p.m. at Moe Joe’s. Men will be welcome and the evening will feature a live dance band at 10 p.m. Cover is $5.
Women DJs are on deck for a B.C. Ovarian Cancer Research fundraiser Friday, March 10 at 10 p.m. at the Savage Beagle. Ticket prices to be announced.
The week tops off with the Red Party with music from alternative-country gal Kathleen Edwards, wine tastings from Mission Hill, and a silent auction Saturday, March 11 at 9 p.m. at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC). Advanced $50 tickets are available at the Whistler Activity Centre. All proceeds benefit B.C. Cancer Foundation research for ovarian cancer.
