A 25-year-old could be facing serious charges in relation to a MVA in Pemberton earlier this fall.
RCMP have recommended charges in regards to an Oct. 2, 2005 motor vehicle accident on Portage Road. In a report forwarded to Crown counsel, the police are recommending charges of "impaired driving causing bodily harm" and "dangerous driving causing bodily harm."
The single car motor vehicle accident occurred just after midnight on Sunday, Oct 2, sending two women to Lions Gate Hospital. The women were traveling east on Portage Road when the driver lost control and rolled the blue Toyota Tercel just past the Lillooet River Bridge.
The passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the incident and suffered serious injuries. The driver was wearing her seatbelt and as a result remained inside the rolled vehicle. The driver was released from the hospital within days of the accident while the passenger continued treatment for her more serious, yet unconfirmed, injuries.
The vehicle’s occupants had allegedly been celebrating at the closing of the Pony Espresso prior to the incident. Witnesses also allege that the driver failed to heed repeated requests not to drive.
If Crown approves the charges recommended in the RCMP report, the driver of the vehicle will be summoned to court by way of a court order in the New Year. Both charges are indictable offenses, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
