Chateau gallery launching film series with Doris McCarthy biopic

The Mountain Gallery at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is launching a new weekly art film series this Wednesday, Nov. 10 with Doris McCarthy – Heart of a Painter.

The award winning 1983 documentary about the esteemed Canadian landscape artist was produced by painter/filmmaker Wendy Wacko, a former art student of McCarthy’s and creative director for all three of the Fairmont Mountain Galleries in Whistler, Jasper and Banff.

McCarthy’s work features prominently in the Mountain Galleries. As with Heart of a Painter , all the films in the series will be related to the Galleries’ Canadian Collections.

In conjunction with the film the Gallery at Chateau Whistler is exhibiting a collection of McCarthy’s private edition giclee prints and is stocking the second edition of the resilient 95 year old artist’s retrospective book "Celebrating Life – The Art of Doris McCarthy."

Heart of a Painter

will screen at 1 and 3 p.m. in the Gallery with an open discussion between the showings.

The film series will continue throughout November into early December.
