Now in its 26 th season, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Cup loppet cross-country ski race will take place this Sunday, Feb. 9, around the Lost Lake Trail system.

The race is free-technique, and is open to classic or skate skiers. There will be a 6 kilometre race for the Jackrabbits, a 15 km race for recreational and junior categories, and a 30 km race for competitive skiers.

This year the event will start on the beach of Lost Lake, due to a low snowpack on the Chateau fairway.

The cost is $40 for adults, $25 for youths aged 14 to 17, and $15 for children 13 and under. The cost includes an award ceremony in the Fairmont Chateau Whistler ballroom with a plated lunch. Additional lunch tickets can be purchased in advance for non-skiers.

The entry deadline for the competition is noon on Friday, Feb. 7. Call 604-932-8977 to register (Master Card or Visa required). Package pickup is at the Chateau Golf Course clubhouse between 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday. You can also register at the clubhouse on the morning of the race at the clubhouse.

The races get underway at 9 a.m., and the lunch and awards ceremony gets underway at 1 p.m.
