If you’re already registered for the 2003 Cheakamus Challenge Fall Classic Mountain Bike Race, don’t forget to carb load at dinner tonight.

If you’re still on the fence, don’t worry – there’s still plenty of time to register for tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) epic ride.

You can register online until 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at www.cheakamuschallenge.ca. You can also print the entry form that’s available on the Web site and fax it to 604-938-1783 until midnight tonight. If you’re the ultimate procrastinator, your last chance to register is on race day, starting at 8 a.m. at Squamish Airport. The event gets underway at 10 a.m. sharp.

The race is 71 kilometres in length with more than 2,000 metres of climbing. It starts at Squamish Airport and finishes at the base of Whistler Mountain, taking the Cheakamus Canyon as far as the Whistler Interpretive Forest. The course is a mix of road, dirt road, doubletrack and singletrack. The difficulty level also went up this year with the addition of the Trash mountain bike trail to the mix.

"The course is marked, everything’s in good shape, all obstacles have been removed, and the course is ready to ride," said race organizer Grant Lamont.

The aprés race party takes place at the Brew House Pub, starting with the barbecue at 4 p.m. The awards will take place at 6 p.m., followed by the WORCA year-end party at 8 p.m.

In its 20 th year, the Cheakamus Challenge is one of the longest running mountain bike races in North America.
