Childcare centre receives funding

New slide in by spring

Whistler Children’s Centre will be getting some new playground equipment thanks to a provincial government grant.

“It’s great,” said Julia Black, executive director of the centre at Nester's and Lorimer Road. “We have been working on this since last June so we are very excited to get the whole thing going.”

West Vancouver-Garibaldi MLA Joan McIntyre announced the $9,500 grant earlier this week.

“Our government is committed to ensuring that child care centres across the province are able to provide a safe healthy and fun environment for our kids,” said McIntyre.

“Childcare centres are an important part of our community and this funding will enable the Whistler Children’s Centre to continue to provide excellent care for children.”

Black applied for the funding when it became clear that some of the equipment in use needed to be replaced.

While excited about the new slide, climbing wall, and platform structure Black also acknowledged that it would not have been possible to get it in place if not for all the residents who helped.

“It was a joint effort with a huge amount of local support,” she said.

CME came and did site clearing, Sabre donated pea gravel and parents helped out by repairing the fencing. It’s hoped the new structure will be in place by spring if the weather co-operates.
