Pair up, walk on over, and don’t forget your umbrella: the Junior Choir of the Whistler Children’s Chorus features 6 to 9 year olds belting out songs from Gonna Build an Ark this Sunday.

Children will also read from a selection of poems and prayers dedicated to animals, while several Christmas selections will also be included in the show.

Now in its 10th season, the Whistler Children’s Chorus was originally founded by Molly Boyd as a non-auditioned community choir, whose mandate is to "provide opportunities for all children in our community to sing and enjoy making music."

Music practice continues to be a popular after school activity for members of the chorus, who range in age from 6 through 17 years. One hundred children in the Whistler area participate in the varied rehearsals. During the 2000 season the chorus performed at the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, the World Symposium of Children’s Choirs, and the Whistler Music Festival.

Treasurer Nancy Harley, and artistic directors Janet Hamer and Alison Hunter run the chorus, and apparently people cannot get enough of the little people’s renditions.

The Intermediate Choir of the Whistler Children’s Chorus will be representing B.C. on Parliament Hill in Ottawa from June 28 to July 2, 2002.

The chorus will also present Sing Noel, the annual Christmas concert for all three local choirs, as a fund-raiser for the Whistler Food Bank during the middle of December.

Gonna Build an Ark takes place Sunday, Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, located at 6299 Lorimer Road. With the exception of Christmas Eve, all Whistler Children’s Chorus concerts will be held at the same location. For more information contact Alison Hunter at 604-932-2979 or gphunt@direct.ca.
