What: CHiRP Community Mapping and Habitat Monitoring, public workshop

The Community Habitat Resources Project, better known as CHiRP, is starting to take shape.
The group has purchased a server to host the CHiRP Web site, and the project’s partners are busy providing maps, habitat data and other content to Web developer Tracy Howlett.
Once completed, anyone in the community will be able to use CHiRP’s interactive maps and story database to learn more about different habitats and ecosystems in and around Whistler, from wetlands to pine forests to old growth bear denning areas.
The map will be site specific, allowing people to investigate different areas, and input information about the different areas they visit.
The 11 partners that make up CHiRP will be hosting a public workshop for CHiRP on Nov. 15 to demonstrate how maps are made, and how the public and other user groups can get involved by sharing stories and using the interactive features of the Web site.
This free workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with food and drinks provided.
