Nearly a month since their return home from Disneyland, California, the inspired Whistler Children’s Choir and their directors have begun practising what to them was preached. The choir was invited to take part in Magic Music Days, a series of Disney master classes and workshops instructed by Disney choreographers and conductors, designed to teach young choral groups how to sing, rehearse and perform with Disney flair. After spending a year fund-raising for the trip, the group of 27 visited the recording studio behind Toontown, for two days worth of choral workshops from the studio’s clinicians. The group learned new techniques, were demonstrated many new ideas, and learned how to put on a "real" show. The group’s not-so-Minnie Mouse fund-raising efforts raised nearly $15,000 for their three-day trip. "Almost a month later, Janet and I still can’t believe we actually did it," says Alison Hunter, the choir’s director. "We started planning this trip almost four years ago. At first it seemed way beyond our reach, but as Janet Hamer (co-director) said, ‘If we don’t have a dream, we’ll never leave the Millar Room.’ So we, and the choir members, dreamed and worked toward our goal and we made it. We have spent the last year fund-raising — singing for functions, selling dried fruits and nuts, washing cars, selling roses, baked goods and books, and soliciting sponsorships. The choir would never have made it without the support or our community."
