code name whistler

If you look at the world from a uniquely Microsoft point of view, Whistler-Blackcomb is a resort a few hours outside of Seattle. It is also the retreat destination of choice for Microsoft executives and the inspiration for the code names for the latest Windows series. According to a report on technology news web site, Microsoft has dubbed its first full upgrade of Windows 2000 after its mountain muse, Whistler. The follow-up product due for a 2002 release is code-named Blackcomb. Although Microsoft is still rolling out Windows 2000 the development team is already reported to be working on Whistler, which supersedes the Windows releases formerly code-named Neptune and Odyssey. ZDNet reports Microsoft developers have been charged with delivering a code-complete alpha release of Whistler by April. While Whistler will be the first full upgrade to Windows 2000, it won’t be the release upon which the company is betting its next-generation architecture, reports ZDNet. Microsoft will, instead, rely on Blackcomb.
