Community can participate in regional growth strategy

The community will have the chance to comment on the future of the entire region this week.

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District is holding two workshops on its regional growth strategy.

The regional growth strategy is designed to take a collective look at issues affecting the region as a whole, such as growth, economic transition, transportation, affordable housing and land use.

The process will involve all member municipalities of the SLRD, along with community members who want to get involved.

"Co-operation among municipalities, the regional district, First Nations, provincial and other government agencies is vital to the creation of a high quality of life in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District," said SLRD Chair Susan Gimse.

"Developing a regional growth strategy allows local governments in the SLRD to work together and undertake planning at the regional level."

Whistler residents and residents in the northern portion of Electoral Area D can attend a community workshop at Myrtle Philip Community School on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Residents of Pemberton and Electoral Area C can attend a workshop at the Pemberton Community Centre on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. RSVP in advance by contacting [email protected] or call 1-800-298-7753 ext. 237.
