Community Foundation ‘Going Greener’

Hosting workshop on April 21

This Saturday, April 21, the Community Foundation of Whistler is hosting an environmental forum called “Going Greener: From Planning to Action, looking at ways the community can address issues of local concern.

Other members of the Sea the Sky Community Foundations Environment Initiative are also organizing meetings under the general theme of “Sustainable Communities”. Topics for forums include sustainable growth, youth and the environment, green buildings, and air quality, among others.

The Whistler event will look at Whistler’s sustainability initiatives, and there are many in the Whistler 2020 report, and discuss ways to put them into action. The agenda includes presentations from Lisa Griffith of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, Ione Smith of Smart Growth B.C., Ken Baker of VANOC, and Neil Godfrey of the Whistler 2020 Development Corporation.

People attending the meeting will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet with presenters. Bob Purdy, the regional manager of the Fraser Basin Council will facilitate the discussions.

The event will run from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spruce Grove Field House. It’s free to all and lunch will be provided. People wishing to attend should RSVP by contacting Kerry Chalmers at 604-935-8080 or info@whistlerfoundation.com .
