Confirmed arson in Mount Currie home

Police have confirmed a house fire in Mount Currie last month was started intentionally.

A fire inspector from Kamloops has investigated the scene and determined arson was the cause of the blaze.

The fire began in the early hours of Sunday May, 23 at a double-wide trailer on Portage Road. No one was injured in the blaze but the house was completely gutted, according to Pemberton’s Fire Chief Russell Mack.

He explained that when the fire crews arrived just before 2 a.m. the fire was already through the roof in one area. The crews did not clear the scene until 6:30 a.m.

Four people lost all their belongings in the fire.

An account has been set up at the North Shore Credit Union under House Fire Trust Account # 2113-14 for anyone who wants to donate money.

No charges have been laid but police are still investigating the situation.
