You can’t argue with results.

The board of directors of Whistler Mountain Ski Club announced on Feb. 26 that Nigel Cooper will stay on with the club as the full-time program director. He was appointed to the position last September on an interim basis with the club for the 2001-2002 season.

"By the time he arrived in late summer, planning was well in hand but Nigel hit the ground running and quickly took hold of the job," said alpine chair John Benbow. "He is a great asset both on and off the hill and we are delighted Nigel will be staying on with the club in a full-time capacity."

More praise came from club president Paul McCullough. "Our athlete numbers are significantly larger this season and we have had some excellent results at all levels. Our biggest priority right now is to harvest and build on the opportunities and talents that lie within the resources of our club and we believe Nigel has brought the spirited attitude and enthusiasm needed to succeed."

This past season the club has dominated at every level of competition, earning spots in the national championships and the B.C. Winter Games.

Selection of a number of Whistler Mountain Ski Club athletes to provincial and national teams over the years attests to the premier level of the club’s ski racing programs and currently 14 club athletes are members of these teams.

"We believe with Nigel’s leadership we are getting on top of our game; we are seeing plays three moves ahead," says McCullough.
