Boisterous visitors cause trouble in village Whistler RCMP hope the upcoming American long weekend won't bring the same number of troubling confrontations between visitors and locals as they say occurred last weekend. Constable Warren Tomalty said the community seemed to be abnormally busy with a number of wedding stags, resulting in numerous incidents of men behaving badly and harassing women. On the afternoon of June 25, a group of stag participants entered a village business staffed by a lone female and began making "unseemly comments" towards her. Tomalty said one man in the group then grabbed the employee by her waist and pulled her up against his body. Police are investigating the incident as a possible sexual assault and are asking for the public's assistance in providing any additional details. Off his rocker A serious lack of sense was shown by one 30-year-old man after a prank with a moving vehicle left him with head injuries. Tomalty said RCMP were called to Gateway Boulevard on June 28 after the man apparently jumped onto the trunk of a moving vehicle, and then fell off as it turned the corner. The man cracked his head on the ground and had to be rushed by ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital to be examined by a neurologist. More fake fifties Another local business reported receiving a counterfeit Canadian $50 bill during the week, and Tomalty is recommending that merchants continue to be on the look-out for the bogus bills. Tomalty has conducted two lectures for businesses on the best ways to detect fake currency and may offer additional instruction to local merchants. Dirt bikes go missing A motorcycle enthusiast staying at the Whistler Creek Lodge was in for a rude awakening June 28 after discovering two dirt bikes had been stolen from a truck during the night. A green 1994 Kawasaki KX80 motorbike and a 1991 Suzuki RM250 were taken from the vehicle sometime between 2 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Anyone who might have seen the crime or knows about the motorcycles is asked to call CrimeStoppers. Thief makes light work of mountain bike A smooth-operating crook made off with an expensive mountain bike during a daylight theft from Whistler Backroads on June 27. Tomalty said staff noticed a man in his 20s apparently casing the joint as a line of bikes outside were unlocked, then simply came by and walked off with one of the bicycles. Staff noticed the theft and chased the suspect but were unable to catch up with him. The suspect is said to be about 5' 8" with curly black hair and some facial growth. Stolen was a bright yellow Soul model Rocky Mountain Bicycles brand mountain bike, worth about $1,000.
