The municipality is in the process of passing a bylaw amendment that would allow spaces in Function Junction to be used for the 2010 Games.
There were no speakers at Monday’s public hearing either in support or against the bylaw change.
Essentially the change will allow buildings in Function to be used for temporary uses associated with the administration and operation of the 2010 Games.
In an earlier report to council Bill Brown, manager of current planning, said that more than one million square feet of temporary building space will be required for the Games. Only a portion of that will be located in Function Junction.
By limiting the bylaw change to Function, staff now has time to develop appropriate protocols for temporary use permits in other more confined or controlled areas.
Godfrey, Fisher reappointed to VANOC
Whistler Council has approved the reappointments of the community’s two representatives on the board of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic Games.
The municipality’s executive director for the Games, Jim Godfrey, will act as Whistler Designated Appointee and Tourism Whistler’s President Barrett Fisher is the alternate.
Godfrey and Fisher are part of the 20-member VANOC board, which includes representation from the Canadian Olympic Committee, the City of Vancouver, the province and the federal government, as well as Squamish and Lil’wat First Nations.
