Council orders asphalt plant to stop operations

Alpine Paving must cease operations by May 13

Alpine Paving has less than a month to stop operation of its asphalt plant in the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood.

If operations don't stop by May 13, council will consider all the enforcement powers at its disposal.

That was the message from Mayor Ken Melamed at tonight's council meeting.

In a brief statement at the outset out the meeting, the mayor said council made its decision last week and directed its lawyers Lidstone and Company to send a letter on April 11.

Melamed said there would be no further comment at this time.

Stay tuned to the Pique Newsmagazine for reaction from residents who have lobbied long and hard for council to take this direction.

More to come.
