Council pledges to find administrator soon

Council is still committed to hiring a municipal administrator before the end of their term in office.

"It’s our goal to finalize our search by the end of term," said Acting Mayor Gord McKeever. "Whether we are able to or not, time will tell."

Ever since March, when council moved former administrator Jim Godfrey to a newly created position in municipal hall – executive director for the 2010 Games, Whistler – the municipality has been without its top manager.

When asked why it’s taking so long, McKeever stressed the importance of choosing the right candidate for the job.

"It’s been a nationwide search," he said. "We’ve had respondents from coast to coast. It’s a very important job and we want to get it right."

Though this council will hold their last public meeting on Nov. 21, two days after the election, their term in office does not officially end until the first council meeting in December. That’s when the new council will be sworn into office.

There are scant details about the job search because personnel negotiations and discussions are in camera, as per the Community Charter.

"We’re actively engaged and in discussions," said Mayor Hugh O’Reilly, speaking from Hawaii where he is now living and working. "It’s obviously a big decision so we continue to work at it."
