Here's a quick look at what to expect at Tuesday's council meeting, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 at the Maury Young Arts Centre.

WHISTLER BLACKCOMB STAFF HOUSING

A rezoning for a new Whistler Blackcomb (WB) staff building—that could end up housing more than 200 workers—is heading to council for its potential endorsement on Sept. 3.

The proposed building is six storeys tall with 60, two-bedroom units. Each unit is about 40 square metres in size and would include a shared kitchen and bathroom, and is targeted at WB's first-year and returning seasonal employees (four per unit).

A public information meeting will follow before the rezoning bylaws are brought back to council.

ANIMAL RESPONSIBILITY BYLAW

Pet lovers take note: the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is updating its animal control bylaw.

The updated bylaw—now known as the Animal Responsibility Bylaw—will receive first readings at the Sept. 3 council meeting.

The new bylaw adds fines for dog bites and definitions for guide dogs, removes the penalty for first impound of licensed dogs, and updates fees for things like boarding at the animal shelter and dog licences.

Further, the bylaw adds a tiered system for poor dog behaviour (including higher licence fees for dogs classified as aggressive or vicious) and increased penalties for dogs running at-large from $75 to $200.

In building the updated bylaw (the first update since 2002), RMOW staff referenced similar bylaws in other municipalities such as the District of Squamish and City of Surrey.
