Council is checking out the competition south of the border.

All seven members will be taking part in a fact-finding mission to Colorado, along with four members of senior staff, the president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce and a representative from Tourism Whistler.

The four-day trip from Oct. 12 to 16 will take in Aspen, Vail and Breckenridge.

Plans include meetings with the mayor and council of each of those towns, taking in things like the Aspen Institute, the airport in Vail, and looking at economic redevelopment and rejuvenation in Breckenridge.

"No doubt that there are lessons that we can learn from them," said the mayor.

Whistler uses Aspen and Vail as economic benchmarks.

This was a trip first talked about by the previous council, but it was unable to make it happen.

The mayor said there was a $20,000 budget set aside to cover council costs.
