School board CEO to leave (chris woodall) The Howe Sound district school board is tight-lipped about the sudden announcement that CEO and superintendent Doug Courtice will be "leaving." The brief press release issued Wednesday, Feb. 19, does not say if Courtice is jumping or if he's being pushed. "The school board will be searching for a new superintendent to begin duties Aug. 1," the press release says. "The board and district appreciate the services provided during his term as CEO." Courtice has been superintendent at Howe Sound for three years. The exact date of when he leaves office was not announced. "We wish him well," added board chair Constance Rulka when contacted by phone about the announcement. She refused to divulge any further information. Courtice and board secretary-treasurer Nancy Edwards were attending a meeting called by the education ministry on the day the release was issued announcing Courtice's departure. There was no prior indication what the meeting was about. An audit of the school district’s finances has been completed but has not yet been made public. The press release concludes by saying Courtice "has enjoyed working with students, parents, staff and the communities of School District 48 (Howe Sound) and wishes them well in the future."
