Crankworx prize purse the biggest ever

Over $70,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs<

Last week the Kokanee Crankworx freeride mountain bike festival announced prizing for this year’s slate of competitions, which will top $70,000 for the first time ever.

The largest prize purse, as usual, will go to riders in the slopestyle competition, which is being sponsored by Monster Energy Drink this year. Competitors in that event will share $30,000.

The Volkswagen Trick Showdown, a new event for the festival, will feature an $8,000 prize purse.

The Jim Beam Air Downhill, Monster Energy Garbanzo Downhill, Dual Slalom, Giant (Bicycles) Slalom, and Canadian Open Downhill will each have a prize purse of $6,000 this year and the WomenzWorx competition will have $3,200 in prizes. Other events taking place during the festival include the Ken Quon “Ride On” team cross-country race, and the Trialsworx trials demonstration and contest.

This year more than 50 expo tents will be set up through the village, with all the biggest names in the mountain bike industry. Up to 250,000 guests are expected to visit the resort during the festival, which run from Aug. 9 to 17.
