Good-bye Gondola Barn, Boyd House Intrawest alters destruction plans for Whistler Station Nothing is fixed in the heavens — the same is true for Intrawest's plans for Creekside. Four buildings will be demolished this year as a first step in Intrawest's Whistler Station mega-development, but one cabin that was to be crushed will survive. The Gondola Barn and the maintenance shed on the other side of Whistler Creek from the barn will still crumble to make way for creek flood mitigation, says Neil Rodgers, Intrawest director of development. Also to fall will be the race centre and the former "Boyd House," both on the north side of Whistler Creek. They are to make way for the Whistler Ski Club cabin, to be moved there this year from its current location at the south end of the Creekside base of Whistler Mountain. The bridge across Whistler Creek will have to be rebuilt to accommodate the move. What will be saved is the former volunteer cabin that was in the same cluster as the Boyd House. It seems that Intrawest hasn't much choice but to keep it, as the municipality deemed it architecturally significant. "It is an interesting building from an architectural perspective, according to some experts," says Rodgers, who did not say if he included himself in that statement. The ski club cabin will make use of the volley cabin, located just behind the club cabin’s soon-to-be location, as a bunk house for visiting skiers, Rodgers says. To move the ski club cabin, Intrawest will have to tear off the ground floor, Rodgers says. "But it will get a new ground floor with a better layout so there'll be no loss of floor space to the ski club," Rodgers says. The old foundation will be torn out to make way for a condo hotel planned for part of that site, sitting on what is now Rob Boyd Way and facing west along Gondola Way.
