More than 125 people, including most of the candidates for municipal office, turned out for Saturday’s workshop on the redevelopment of Creekside. If there was one common theme to come out of the workshop it seemed to be the desire to keep the area’s identity distinct from the village, while encouraging redevelopment. A number of groups commented on the need to enhance trails and other links among Bayshores, Twin Lakes, the Lake Placid Road area, the shores around Nita Lake and the Rimrock area. The BC Rail train station was also the focus of much attention, with developer John Taylor presenting plans for a new station and hotel. The Creekside Merchants Association, which organized the meeting, called it a success. Since the annual town hall meeting has now been postponed until after the Nov. 16 municipal elections the Creekside meeting was one of the few opportunities for a group of people to make their opinions known to council candidates. Participants were divided into groups of 4-6 to discuss four main questions: expectations for rehabilitation of Lake Placid Road, opportunities for enhancing the train station, opportunities to enhance recreation and parks facilities in the area, and what is needed to enhance the quality of life in Creekside. Suggestions from each table have been recorded and will be passed along to council candidates and municipal hall.
