To cap off a series of epic powder runs and semi-bluebird days, a group of Sea to Sky musicians are hosting a special event Saturday at the GLC that offers people a chance to show their appreciation for B.C.'s natural bounty.
Local artists are teaming up to present The River of Time, a night of music and fun designed to celebrate our natural environment and raise awareness about many of the issues surrounding local rivers.
And with a lineup that includes live funk, jazz, disco-house, soul, hip hop and amazing visual arts, it's sure to be an amazing sensory experience.
Papa Josh is a talented guitar player, musician and producer whose live funk, jazz, electronic and disco-house show is guaranteed to have the whole bar on their feet dancing along to his tunes. The two talented emcees that make up the Animal Nation duo blend humour and wit into their sophisticated hip hop beats and rhymes, while Whistler jazz legend Cameron Chu will bust out an electric organ to accompany both Papa Josh and Animal Nation onstage. Last but certainly not least, Whistler's Julian Hine (DJ J. to the U.) will spin sets of soul, funk, reggae and much more at the beginning of the night and between acts to the keep the party rockin'.
And on top of all of the musical entertainment, expect a visual spectacle as Team Earth VJ Rob Elliot presents his multi-visual projections and The Path Gallery displays their Native art alongside eye candy and decor by Isis and Eric, while Rainbo Flo, Jeanne Cross and Linda Brown provide some enthralling firespinning, hula-hooping, and dancing.
The event takes place at the GLC on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance from the GLC, The Oracle, and The Path Gallery, with all proceeds donated to the Save Our Rivers Society.
Quartet of comedians at GLC
Known to many as the best apres spot in town, the GLC is being transformed into a comedy club next week, as four very funny men prepare to take the stage to eke a few giggles and guffaws out of Whistlerites.
Ed Byrne, Dan Quinn, Craig Campbell and Glenn Wool are kickstarting a four-week comedy tour of British Columbia here in Whistler on Tuesday evening. During the day, the funnymen will be hitting the slopes, but in the evening they'll be offering stand-up in beloved ski town venues like the GLC.
The idea came from Quinn's plan to take a bit of a break from headlining clubs across the country and performing at international shows in Europe. Instead, he wanted to snowboard every hill in Western Canada, funding the adventure with stand-up gigs. Wool loved the idea and asked to tag along. Soon, Campbell and Byrne were on board, as well.
Last year's tour garnered rave reviews and brought out huge crowds. Now they're back for a second year, expanding the tour to four weeks and including small and large venues.
While each comedian has a distinctly different brand of humour and on-stage style, they are all internationally-recognized performers. Each comedian will perform for 25 minutes, with an intermission after the first two acts. Together, they promise to offer an evening of comedy that's sure to leave audience members walking away with smiles on their faces.

Farm fresh, through 2010
The Winter Farmer's Market has just gotten word that they'll be able to operate throughout the Olympics in their current location in the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre (SLCC.)
There, they will continue to sell their farm-fresh wares which include fresh cheeses, baked goods, local preserves, apples and root vegetables alongside artisan goods like natural soaps, creams and cosmetics, jewellery and visual arts. There are also services like tarot card readings and massage and accupressure stations.
They'll be open every Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. from Jan. 10 to Mar. 28. Admission is free to the public.
Deep Winter reminder
Five very talented photographers have been toiling away on Whistler and Blackcomb for the past three days, gathering shots to include in the fourth annual Arc'Teryx Deep Winter Photo Challenge.
The event is held as part of the Deep Winter Experience, which runs from Jan. 4 to 10. This year, two-time reigning champ Jordan Manley will face off against the winner of the first competition, Paul Morrison. Colin Adair, Nicolas Teichrob and last-minute addition Brian Hockenstein are also vying for the title King of Storms.
The five competitors will showcase their slideshows to a judging panel and the public tonight (Thursday, Jan. 7) at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance
