crystal mountain

With 25 per cent more snow than usual and a 10 per cent increase in skier visits this past winter Crystal Mountain’s expansion plans will continue, with a second high-speed six-passenger chair being installed this summer. Purchased by Boyne USA last year, Crystal Mountain in Washington has been long overdue for expansion. Boyne installed a $5 million high-speed six-passenger chair prior to last season as part of a 10 year, $42 million expansion. A 100-person tram is planned for the year 2000, which will carry people from the base to the summit year round. Expanded runs and a slope-side hotel are also part of the long-term commitment. Despite the big plans, Boyne recognizes Crystal will never be a true destination resort, because it is situated on national forest land. Still, Crystal plans on making inroads into the Seattle and Tacoma skier market.
