Cyclist killed on Mons Road

A 49-year-old Whistler man was killed on Tuesday evening on Mons Road after a collision with a flat deck truck.

A 49-year-old Whistler man was killed on Tuesday evening on Mons Road after a collision with a flat deck truck. According to RCMP the cyclist was heading westbound on the Valley Trail near the Riverside Campground when he crossed onto the road and was struck by a northbound vehicle.

He was attended to on the scene by witnesses in another vehicle, then transferred to the Whistler Health Care Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. His family was notified, but the victim's name is not being released at this time.

The incident took place at 5:20 p.m., and Mons Road was closed for several hours as the RCMP conducted its investigation.

The cyclists was riding a commuter-style bike with panniers on the front and side.

The RCMP are reminding the public to use caution while cycling and operating motor vehicles. Cyclists should wear reflective clothing and use lights in the evening, and motorists are reminded to watch for cyclists.
