The Canadian Cancer Society is gearing up for Daffodil Days. Volunteers are now accepting daffodil orders and are selling bundles of the flowers to help support the fight against cancer.
Daffodil sales are an important part of the society’s annual cancer awareness campaign in April and help raise funds for cancer research and to provide prevention and support programs for people affected by cancer.
"Cancer touches just about everyone at some point in their lives," said Mike Mahony, B.C. and Yukon Division chair. "Volunteers who sell daffodils and take part in our annual door-to-door fundraising campaign in April truly embody the power of the flower."
Daffodils have been a vibrant symbol of hope for the Canadian Cancer Society since 1958 when volunteers sold 2,400 daffodils on Toronto street corners and raised $1,200.
"Daffodil sales are a delight for a lot of volunteers who enjoy supporting the cancer cause," says May Kyryluk of Surrey, who lost both her husband and father to cancer and has for the last 11 years volunteered to sell daffodils.
