The message is about positive thought having a positive effect on your everyday life.
"I just want people to be happy," says Aboubacar Camara, group leader of Doundounba. "Our music is good to listen to for a good time."
Doundounba are Afro funk and traditional sound fused together to make amasoumbou, which means to mix. The group of six musicians and dancers combine traditional ancient Guinean rhythms with popular West African dance-driven melodies. The beat will keep the shy tapping their toes, and the not so shy freely dancing.
Camara explains how you can’t focus on the negatives; the group encourages people to keep true to yourself and your good qualities.
"When you come to my show, it will bring your life up," said Camara. "You don’t just watch the show, you will be a part of it."
The six performers come from various musical and dance backgrounds, each adding to the vibrant sound of Doundounba. The group incorporates the xylophone, diembe (hard drum), doun doun (bass drum), kirin (slit drum) and gongoma (gourd), alongside the electric and bass guitars and a drum kit.
Doundounba will be at the Boot, Monday, Oct. 10.
