Deadly accident on the Sea to Sky

Squamish woman killed in head-on

Squamish RCMP are looking for witnesses to a fatal accident that claimed a Squamish resident this week. The 40-year-old woman was killed in a late-afternoon head-on accident one kilometre north of Garibaldi Way on Wednesday. A northbound 2000 Jeep crossed the line and struck the woman’s 1986 Chevrolet Spectrum. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. The 60-year-old driver of the Jeep had minor injuries and was later released from hospital. Cause of the collision is under investigation and Squamish RCMP are asking witnesses to contact the detachment at 604-892-6100.

Earlier that same afternoon three people in their 20s were injured, one seriously, in a single-vehicle accident on Daisy Lake Forrest Service Road south of Whistler. A 15-passenger van went off the road in slippery conditions and plunged 10 metres down an embankment. An unidentified male passenger was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and one passenger had minor injuries. Two other passengers, also in their 20s, were not injured. Whistler RCMP say alcohol was not a factor. Charges are not pending at this point and cause of the accident is still under investigation.
