A 24-year-old employee of Whistler Mountain died of massive head injuries after falling over a rocky cliff region above West Bowl Tuesday. Richard Lacelle of Cornwall, Ont. was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m. Tuesday at the scene of the accident by a mountain doctor on duty with the Whistler Mountain Ski Patrol. Whistler Mountain issued a press release stating a party of snowboarders had ridden the Peak Chair then crossed over an early-season ski area boundary line into an area known as "Hanging Roll," above West Bowl. Lacelle apparently lost control and fell over a rocky cliff region, coming to a halt in West Bowl. Lacelle’s body was evacuated by helicopter to the Whistler Medical Clinic. Lacelle was off duty when the accident occurred.
